Music on Hold FAQ
Question: Is there a monthly fee?
Answer: No. When you license music from us, there is never any additional fees.
Question: Do I have to make yearly payments to BMI, ASCAP and SESAC?
Answer: No. As a music publisher, we can license performance rights directly to you in what is known as a Direct License. With our Direct License, all performance royalties have been paid directly to us, and is included in your one time fee. Since there are no performance royalties to be collected, you do NOT have to make payments to ASCAP, BMI or SESAC.
Question: Do you offer a guarantee?
Answer: Yes. If for any reason you do not wish to keep this CD, just contact us within 30 days of your purchase date, and we will refund 100% of your purchase price.
Question: What do I get when I order?
Answer: You will receive an audio CD which is compatible with any standard CD player. You will also receive a music license granting rights to use for music on hold, including all performance royalties.
Question: Can I use these CDs at more than one location?
Answer: One license per physical location where the music will be heard. If you have more than one location, the license fee must be paid for each location where the music will be used. If you are using one call center for more than one physical location, a license will be needed for each of these locations.
Question: Can I offer this music as part of a music on hold service?
Answer: No, not with our standard license. Please Contact Us to discuss offering our music as part of your service.
Question: Will you be offering more CDs?
Answer: Yes. We will offer additional CDs in the future. As a customer, you will receive announcements of new titles as they become available.
Question: Isn't it illegal to use music without paying BMI or ASCAP?
Answer: The issue here is payment of what is known as performance royalties. A better question would be, "Is it illegal to use music without paying performance royalties?". The answer to this question is yes. Now, it is a matter of who collects the performance royalties. ASCAP and BMI collect performance royalties on behalf of their members, composers and publishers. When a publisher (or composer if no publisher) issues a Direct License, performance royalties have been paid directly to the music publisher. Therefore, there is nothing for ASCAP or BMI to collect. This is allowed in the contracts between composers, publishers and ASCAP / BMI.
