Performance rights societies (ASCAP-BMI-SESAC) do allow their members to offer what is known as a "Direct License". The members of these performance rights societies are composers and music publishers, and they are the ones who own the copyright on the composition. With a Direct License, the copyright owner licenses their performance rights directly to the end user. Therefore, there are no performance royalties to be collected by ASCAP, BMI or SESAC.
